You helped us raise £24,226 for the GWCT

We’re delighted to reveal the figure that, with your help, was raised during our autumn giveback campaign for the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust.

A passion for the British countryside has shaped Schöffel Country from day one. For three decades it has underpinned much of what we do as a brand – it’s in our DNA.

Earlier last year, as we sat down to discuss our campaigns and ambitions, there was once again a strong desire among the whole team to ‘do something’ for the landscapes, people and wildlife that make the countryside – and Schöffel Country – what it is.

We wanted to do something meaningful that would both raise awareness and support a charity that is making a real difference. And we wanted to talk about and raise funds for a subject that affects us all and would resonate with our audience.

Farmland birds in the UK have declined by more than 60% over the last 40 years. The GWCT is playing a key role in helping land managers reverse this trend.

We settled on the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, the independent wildlife conservation charity that is leading the way in research and projects relating to wildlife-friendly farming. More specifically, between 21 October and 3 November, we pledged to donate 5% of all sales through the Schöffel Country website to the GWCT. We did the same again on Giving Tuesday (3 December).

Together, we raised £24,226.

Why the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust?

You might have noticed that this isn’t the first time we’ve raised funds for the GWCT at Schöffel. In fact, over the years we’ve raised funds through our Black Friday activity for the Trust’s Game Appeal, the Wader Tracking Appeal, the Waders for Real project, and regenerative farming training – which alone alludes to the breadth of its work.

The GWCT has been at the forefront of scientific research into game and wildlife populations for almost a century. What sets it apart, though, is a focus on evidence-based findings that help landowners, farmers and policymakers make pragmatic choices for the environment.

Education and knowledge sharing is an important part of the Trust’s work.

This knowledge and these choices are helping working conservationists understand the delicate balance of our ecosystems, ensuring that both wildlife and agriculture can thrive, together.

The GWCT’s flagship demonstration farm – the Allerton Project in Leicestershire – is where this science is applied and put to the test. You might already have seen the content we produced in October after our visit?

Food security, biodiversity recovery and climate change mitigation are all primary areas of focus at the GWCT. Soil scientists and predator management specialists rub shoulders with experts on agroforestry, wetlands, and a host of other topics.

And it’s not just research and science. There’s a strong emphasis on education, collaboration and spreading the word, too; throughout the year the GWCT hosts many workshops and events to share the valuable knowledge it collects.

Put simply, the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust is an organisation we’re very proud to support. And we know how much good they’ll do with the money that you, our customers, have helped us raise this year.
