The country lanes in Devon are insanely narrow. Yet, strangely, they feel cut out for Blue Tit, the 1985 Land Rover 90 of Instagram fame.

We met Tati Reed, Blue Tit’s owner, on a farm just a few miles from the sandy beaches of Slapton, all set for a mission that would see us explore the surrounding area with one task in mind...

Since 2023, Tati Reed has amassed a following of nearly half a million on her popular Instagram account, @overintherover. We can report that she’s just as entertaining in ‘real life’.

The 22-year-old dynamo is well-versed with adventures in the truck she calls the ‘love of her life’. In fact, that’s the general theme of the content that has helped her build an online following of nearly half a million people in just two years.

Tati seems to embrace the frenetic unpredictability of life, and that extends to and sets the tone for both her relationship with (as she often calls ‘her’) ‘The Tit’, and the general theme of her social media presence – @overintherover. Whether she’s documenting the daily highs and lows as a Land Rover owner or preparing for/embarking on another road-trip, her content is easy to watch, real, and always entertaining.

Tati’s audience has joined her on journeys across Europe as she explores new territory while hoping that her Stratos Blue steed won’t break down – or, at least, that it will be mendable when it does. There’s no smoothing over the bumps here. Think of it as a refreshing remedy to the usual ‘influencer’ drivel we’re so used to seeing elsewhere.

Since buying Blue Tit, her Land Rover 90, with the view to travelling to far-flung places, Tati has enjoyed quite the mechanical education and can often be seen fixing and tinkering in a workshop, donning her blue overalls.

In typical honest fashion, Tati is open about the fact her love for Land Rovers hasn’t been a lifelong thing that has ticked over since childhood. Rather, it really started when she took the plunge and bought her own, inspired by someone close to her.

Perhaps inevitably, Tati has since found herself on a steep learning curve, fixing problems as they appear – often on the roadside. Her ‘grid’ on social media is peppered with images of her in blue overalls protruding from beneath chassis’ or engine bays – oily hands, spark plugs, prop shafts, exhaust pipes... you get the idea. All a necessary education for someone who wishes to get from A to B without too much regular help.

Stop number one on our mission to create the ultimate British picnic using locally sourced produce from Devon.

Happily, on the summer’s day we joined Tati, her 40-year-old treasure hardly missed a beat, ferrying us from one location to the next with aplomb.

The aim? To source fresh, local picnic ingredients from four producers within 15 miles of base, which we planned to return to at the end of the day to feed a gang of hungry farmers.

Collecting raspberries from Oak Tree Gardens PYO fruit farm, artisan bread from Hylsten Bakery, charcuterie from Rare & Pasture, and a few bottles of English wine from the Calancombe Estate vineyard, you could call it a ‘best of British’ picnic, gathered in lively spirits with all our fingers crossed that Tati wouldn’t need to demonstrate any serious mechanical problem-solving along the way...
